LIGHTS DIMMED ON BROADWAY……NEW STARS FOR THE HEAVENS……LIFE CAN CHANGE IN THE BLINKING OF AN EYE….

I have waited a bit to do this…..it is never my favorite thing since it requires someone to pass…BUT it is necessary to remember and to remark!!

We recently lost two great entertainers, actors, performers….AND…People of the Theater! With their passing, lights were dimmed on Broadway in their honor…..and we lost two bright lights from our World….BUT, we gained two NEW stars in the Heavens!

First Robin Williams left us far too soon…..his light went out at a very early age for today’s world….i won’t comment on the facts surrounding his death except to say…..it was a very sad ending to a brightly lived life! We all know he was a big Star on TV and in Film….of that there was no doubt….he was an Oscar winner you know….though not as many awards in film as he deserved….He was nominated four times for an Oscar, winning once for GOOD WILL HUNTING. He won two Emmy Awards, though he was NEVER even nominated for some of his most endearing and long remembered TV work such as MORK AND MINDY…He also won six Golden Globes…including one for MORK AND MINDY….

WHAT YOU MAY NOT KNOW was that he was also a man of the Theater…..In 1988 Starring in WAITING FOR GODOT at Linclon Center……In 2002 doing his one man show on Broadway ROBIN WILLIAMS: LIVE ON BROADWAY…and in 2011 playing the Title Role in BENGAL TIGER AT THE BAGHDAD ZOO on Broadway!

He was ONE OF A KIND, a great talent for sure…AND a beloved figure…He will be greatly missed!

Lauren Bacall was years ahead of Robin….years older age wise….and YES she was well known as having once been married to Humphrey Bogart….Bogie and Bacall….she was also a great Actor….in Film, On TV and ON BRODAWAY…..Strangely enough, considering the VAST majority of her work was in the first two mediums, she won her biggest Awards for her work in the Theater….She only recieved an honorary Oscar….only won one Golden Globe that was not honorary….and NEVER won an Emmy though she was nominated three times….What she did do was win TWO TONY AWARDS for best Actress….First in 1970 for APPLAUSE…. and then in 1981 for WOMAN OF THE YEAR….She was a classic….a STAR…..she lived a long and productive life….

She will be missed!

These two STARS had another common trait….they were class acts…they carried themselves well….they helped humanity…they had heart!!

Broadway dimmed their lights, in itself a GREAT honor, at different times for each of them…..their lights here among us  have gone out now….BUT we now have two new BRIGHT LIGHTS in the Heavens…watch them shine!!!
